Wandering Son Ep3: The Road to Adolescence

Posted in Wandering Son tagged , , , , at 12:11 am by meotwister5

Let me begin with a quick background on puberty.  First off, the depiction of Yoshino is rather spot on:  puberty is considered to begin during the first stage of breast growth, Tanner Stage I, and menarche actually happens 1-3 years after that.  Yoshino probably has had them growing on for a while, her age is more or less on par.

The issue of voice cracking is sometimes a misconception.  The first event in male puberty is the enlargement of the genitals.  On that note however, it really is the voice changing that tends to be the first thing boys notice when they come of age, even though they tend to occur 2-3 years after the start of puberty.

Anyway enough of the biology lesson.

Fractale Ep3: Viva La Revolucion!

Posted in Fractale tagged , , at 12:54 am by meotwister5

… Is what I’d like to say really, but when you start gunning down even innocent civilians who you claim have been brainwashed, who then are you “liberating” for your cause?  Clain can only look on in horror as the world he knows gets revealed to him in the middle of spouting blood and automatic rifle fire.  With the inclusion of a Phryne that is so much different from the one he knows and a second Nessa, naivete begins to crack under the weight of truth.

So what then is this world?

Kimi ni Todoke S2 Ep3: The Melancholy of Kazehaya Shota

Posted in Kimi ni Todoke tagged , , , at 10:44 pm by meotwister5

Kazehaya likely doesn’t fully understand the way he’s running the gamut of emotions these days.  Watching the girl he likes continue to be oblivious to his (admittedly) poor attempts to make his feelings known is making him cycle through anger, jealousy, depression and whatever else someone madly in love goes through.  As a whole I’d call it a pervading sense of melancholia on his part, considering that as he watches Kenta make his moves around Sawako (with his motives still vague), he really doesn’t know what he wants or needs to do.

Since we only get 13 episodes this season, he better act damn fast!

Wandering Son Ep2: Barkada Days

Posted in Uncategorized tagged , , , at 1:09 am by meotwister5

Yes I understand that the title isn’t a an English word.  Fellow Filipinos will know what it is because, well, nearly everyone has one.  For those who don’t speak the language, a barkada is essentially your close group of friends that you always hang out with, that you always do things together with and, even in the toughest of times, the ones who will have your back.

And even when you fight or argue, you will always feel the need to at least make up because, in the end, you’re friends.

Fractale Ep2: The Human Disconnection

Posted in Fractale tagged , , , at 8:52 pm by meotwister5

It was a classic “You don’t know what you’ve got until you say goodbye”.  After she disappears into the night, Clain could only become rather angry and depressed on how he views humans as nothing more than transient creatures, passing by to use you before going back on their merry way.

But now that a young girl named Nessa, coming out from pendant Phryne left behind, what would become of his life lived in a distant and impersonal way?  He has no dopple of his own, yet even then seems to find personal contact to be rather… troubling.

Kimi ni Todoke S2 Ep2: An Extra Wheel

Posted in Kimi ni Todoke tagged , , at 8:51 pm by meotwister5

Loud and obnoxious people are people you can’t really avoid.  I mean sure you may have some friends who are like that, but me personally I have a relative dislike for people who are loud and distinctly tactless, moreso if they intend to be that way in the first place.  Hell, even more if they’re getting in the way of something important and they know it.

Kenta is, for a lack of a better term, a fifth wheel who seems to know that he’s a fifth wheel.  Okay perhaps he doesn’t know just yet, but I surmise he will eventually.  How he will act and get in their way is up to anime viewers to speculate.  To say any more would be spoilers so yeah.

Fractale Pilot Episode: When Boy Meets Girl

Posted in Fractale tagged , , , at 3:02 pm by meotwister5

I’ve always wanted to watch a Ghibli TV series.  Yes I know they only make movies and mini series and for the last 15 or so years, but growing up on their films it would have made me a lot happy to wake up every weekend to see the next episode of a Ghibli series.  This series may as well be the closest I’ll ever get to such a wish, and for what it is, it’s starting out with a pretty good job.

What are little boys made of?
What are little boys made of?

Frogs and snails
And puppy-dogs’ tails,
That’s what little boys are made of.
What are little girls made of?
What are little girls made of?

Sugar and spice
And everything nice,
That’s what little girls are made of.

Kimi ni Todoke Pilot Episode: Will You Be My Valentine?

Posted in Kimi ni Todoke tagged , , , at 12:16 am by meotwister5

As opposed to most Western Nations, in Japan Valentine’s Day is usually from the side of the girls.  For most of use we give flowers, chocolates and whatever else we think girls will like.  In Japan it’s the girls who give out chocolate to the guys they like.  In addition they also give obligatory chocolates to friends and close acquaintances, reserving of course the special stuff for the guys they like.

In a good way everyone gets chocolate, unless of course you’re really waiting for that special chocolate from that special someone.  If you don’t, sucks to be you I guess.

Kimi ni Todoke S2 Ep00: A Certain Point of View

Posted in Kimi ni Todoke tagged , , , , , at 8:26 pm by meotwister5

Some people might find it odd that the recap episode that starts off a new season would come from the point of view of the character most people consider the antagonist of the series.  Such characters usually don’t have a very positive opinion of the main characters, or at least the ones they don’t like, but I can’t deny that such an approach really gives as a more fleshed out characterization of the lead cast, but also to the supposed “villains” themselves.

I can’t also deny that this is one of the best recap episodes I’ve ever seen.
